L E G E N D has really enjoyed reading the logs that are rolling in!

Over 2000 emails have been received since the Witton Weavers series has been set, so it's been fantastic to read all the logs and comments pouring through.

There's been a few maintenance issues already, which of course is to be expected. Please try and cover the caches even better than when you found them - a few have been found out in the open. A well-hidden cache should never get muggled! The cost of setting this series was several hundred pounds, so your continued care is very much appreciated.

Also, if you find that L E G E N D's co-ordinates are out, please take a reading, for the benefit of other finders!

L E G E N D is hoping to set the www.nwcaching.co.uk monthly meet event for April - it'll be great to meet you all.

What are those cache containers?

The cache containers are quite unique, they're a plastic vessel about the size of a powdered milk tub, but they've got a secondary seal, too. This, of course, makes them more waterproof, so let's see how they stand up!

They originally had an anti-tamper seal, too. L E G E N D wanted to leave these on for FTF to remove, knowing that they were first. However, on removing the seal, the container then had a white band visible because there was no cammo paint behind.

So - a twin sealed container with an anti-tamper seal... originally available in about 5 sizes from 8cm tall to about 18cm tall.

Well - they were actually containers from a pet cemetery!

When Fido passes away, his cremated ashes are sent back to the dogs owner in the post, using one of these containers.

Depending on the size of the hound, a suitable sized ashes vessel could be used.

Now, do you think that all the dogs ashes are in one big pile, and any old scoop is posted back? You'd be right!

Letterbox Hybrids?

Why are all the caches Letterbox Hybrids?

Why not!

It makes them easy to find on a map, and it's a bit different.

Every cache has a STAMP in it, this is not a swap item, instead, it's for you to stamp your own Letterbox Log Book. Don't worry - most cachers don't have one!

The caches DO NOT have inkpads in them - please bring your own. L E G E N D thinks that inkpads in caches = messy boxes!

Flagship Caches

When there are so many caches in a series, it can be difficult to remember each cache - therefore the L E G E N D would permit - nay, recommend - that you use the Flagship Cache of each section to post your extended log. "TFTC" is fine on all the others!

Also, it would be great if you uploaded all your photos to the Flagship Caches.

The Way is a long-distance 32 mile trail of discovery!

Along the way you’ll be exploring Lancashire’s history, passing weavers cottages, Tudor halls, Victorian estates, historic villages and even Roman Roads.

This industrial, agricultural and religious history is complemented by surprisingly beautiful scenery.

See the curlews soaring above the wild West Pennine Moors, explore beautiful woodlands, remote reservoirs, hidden valleys and enjoy spectacular views from the Jubilee tower.

What’s in a name?

Lancashire was the centre of the cotton industry in Victorian times and the mill town of Blackburn and Darwen were known throughout the world. However, a hundred years before handloom weavers had worked from home. Their stone built cottages are now the nucleus of the beautiful hamlets and villages we find today, throughout the West Pennine Moors.

The individual circular walks of the Witton Weavers Way are names after jobs within the cotton industry; which turned raw cotton into fine cloths.
